Fire Prevention Trailer Now Complete!

NOCFA is pleased to announce the completion of our new Fire Prevention Trailer. This trailer will allow us to significantly increase our ability to provide fire prevention and public education at a variety of locations.

The front and the back of the trailer list local businesses that have become “Partners in Prevention”.

These partners have provided financial support for our expanding programs. If you or your business would like to become a “Partner in Prevention” contact Lt. Barb Weil at 248-459-8317. There’s still room to add your name!

North Oakland County Fire Authority Expands its Rescue Capabilities

In 2006, 1,084 persons were killed and 81, 942 persons were injured in Michigan Motor Vehicle Crashes. The extent of these crashes can be as simple as just damaging property or so serious that the use of “Jaws of Life” is needed to free an occupant. In recognizing this exposure to residents, The North Oakland County Fire Authority applied for funding through the 2007 Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) program with the goal to provide better care to occupants involved in vehicle crashes.

NOCFA received official notification of grant funding on Friday January 4, 2008. This grant will be used to purchase a variety of specialized tools to extend and expand the rescue equipment now used during motor vehicle accidents, agricultural accidents, and general rescue and extrication incidents. Some of the new equipment is lighter weight and will be used on off road incidents occurring on the recreation land in the service area.

This year’s grant award amount was $19,011.00. “Through grants we have been able to acquire much needed equipment while saving our taxpayer’s dollars. In the past 3 years NOCFA has been able to buy items to improve water supply for fires, improve care for cardiac patients, improve medical and fire training, and now we will have more advanced equipment to handle a wide variety of rescue and extrication incidents all from grant dollars” said Fire Chief Jeremy Lintz.
