NOCFA Receives funding for “Rapid Response and Rescue” Program

The North Oakland County Fire Authority has received a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the implementation of its “Rapid Response and Rescue” program. The goal of this program is to improve the fire departments response time to fire and medical emergencies occurring at hard to find residential locations by several minutes. Many of the delays that emergency responders face are due to missing or non standard address markings would be eliminated.

Funding from this grant will allow NOCFA to install reflective address signs free of charge to select target groups within the community. Target groups include homes with children, homes with a member that is disabled/handicapped, homes with a member 65 years and older, and homes with driveways 1000ft or more. Households that are interested in an address sign but are not part of the target groups may purchase a sign and have it installed for a minimal fee. If requested, in addition to installing the address signs, fire department personnel will check your smoke detector, install detectors if needed(limited supplies of detectors are available) , and can answer any fire and life safety questions you might have.

“Looking for a missing or hard to read address can delay medical treatment or fire suppression efforts by several minute’s at the most important stage in the overall emergency response. This program will improve our ability to service our residents in the most effective manner possible” states Chief Jeremy Lintz.
